Milpitas, Califorinia - Jan 20, 2010 – FireEye, Inc., the leader in modern malware protection systems, today appointed Robert F. Lentz to the company's Board of Directors. Lentz, a seasoned cyber security expert and former Chief Information Assurance Officer (CIAO) for the Department of Defense (DoD), will play an active role in further defining and implementing FireEye's go-to-market strategies for combating custom and targeted malware attacks in Federal and enterprise networks.
Lentz has more than 35 years of experience and service to the U.S. government and its cyber crime and information assurance efforts. As the DoD's CIAO, Lentz oversaw the Defense-wide Information Assurance (IA) program. This organization plans, monitors, coordinates and integrates IA activities across the DoD. Simultaneously, Lentz served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber, Information and Identity Assurance in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Networks and Information Integration/Chief Information Officer. Prior to serving as CIAO of the DoD, Lentz spent 26 years at the National Security Agency.
Notably, Lentz received the NSA Resource Manager of the Year Award, the Defense Meritorious Service Award, the 2006 "Top 20" Excellence.gov Award, the 2003 Presidential Rank Award and the 2004 "Federal 100" award. In 2004, Lentz also received the highest-level honorary award the Department can bestow on a civilian employee, the prestigious Secretary of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award.
