Analysis of the Srizbi Recovery Strategy, Leuven-Heverlee, Belgium - Dec. 18, 2008

FireEye will present research findings on the Srizbi botnet, estimated to be responsible for 60-75% of all spam on the Internet. The "Srizbi" botnet has a backup method, which allows the botnet operators to regain control over the stranded bots the resulted from the McColo shutdown. FireEye will discuss the techniques used for this backup method and our analysis of the algorithms used in Srizbi, based on data we obtained after gaining control of the 600,000 node botnet.
